We welcome support from third parties who wish to run an advertising banner on our website. We invite chosen agencies to partake in this and as such these advertising opportunities are free of charge. These banner adverts enable us to increase the profile of Tales from Tin Pan Alley thanks to the nature of the advertisers and in return the adverts link through to the sponsor's website as a means to promote their own services.
Advertising Banner Placement Opportunities
The advertising banner spaces that appear on our website are open to approved agencies and are displayed in three locations across different pages.
Primary Location - Page Header Placement
The Primary Location, also known as the page header banner, is seen on the upper right of the webpage and is on all pages. Where more than one advertiser wishes to have their banner in this location, we will make use of an animated, scrolling banner where the artwork that is loaded is randomised on page load.
The artwork for this location must conform to the following physical specifications but you are at liberty as to the actual content.
Size | Resolution | Format | Sample Image |
---|---|---|---|
745px x 90px | 72dpi | jpg,png,gif* |

Secondary Location - In Page Story Header Placement
The Secondary Location, also known as the 'In Page Story Header' banner, is seen above a page story. Where more than one advertiser wishes to have their banner in this location, we will make use of an animated, scrolling banner where the artwork that is loaded is randomised on page load.
The artwork for this location must conform to the following physical specifications but you are at liberty as to the actual content.

Tertiary Location - Sidebar Placement
The Tertiary Location, also known as the 'Sidebar Placement' banner, is seen in the side bar of the webpage. Where more than one advertiser wishes to have their banner in this location, we will make use of an animated, scrolling banner where the artwork that is loaded is randomised on page load.

Questions and Answers
We have tried to pre-empt your questions about advert banners:
Q: Can we reserve a location for our banner advert to ensure only our organisation's banner is shown in a chosen location across the whole website?
A: No. We prefer to be balanced toward all of our advertisers. We will use randomised display methods to try to ensure all advertisers have equal opportunity for their banner to appear first on page load.
Q: Where a scrolling banner is in use, which organisation's banner will appear first?
A: In scrolling banner mode, the setting is randomised. As such, it is not possible to predict which banner appears first.
Q: How long will banners be on display when in scrolling mode?
A: We feel that between 3 and 5 seconds per banner will be the display time per banner.
Q: Can our banner be avaialble on some pages but not others?
A: Yes, if that is really necessary but note that this can ONLY be provided on the sidebar location.
Q: Do the banners link through to a website URL?
A: Yes. As long as you provide the URL we can set the banner to link to that location.
Q: Can we change the destination URL if the requirements change?
A: Yes. To do this, simply use our contact us page. We will contact you by return to confirm your requirement is valid.
Q: Do Tales from Tin Pan Alley track the clicks and impressions of the banners.
A: Initially we do not propose to do this.
Q: Can we send new artwork if our situation changes?
A: Yes, use the contact us page to start the process of artwork replacement.
Q: Do you plan to charge to show banner adverts on the site?
A: No. It is not in our plan to do this.
Q: How do I send the artwork and what else is needed?
A: Please send the artwork as outlined above to Henry Scott Irvine. Also send the Web URL which will be the destination for when the banner is clicked! We will be unable to add a banner without an associated URL.
Q: To whom should I direct any questions on this matter?
A: In the first instance, please use our Contact Us page.
